Christopher P. Turner

Chris was born in England into a musical family and was taught to play the harmonica by his father and brother who are both folk musicians. Since then he has taught himself to play many instruments, including flute, cornetto, bombard, bagpipes, tin whistle, concentrating on the traditional songs and dance tunes of the British Isles and the United States. He has been playing professionally since 1967 and has toured and recorded all over Europe and the United States playing for people of all ages in a variety of situations. In 1975 he was the European Harmonica Champion for the Folk Section. Chris's enthusiasm and boundless energy are exciting to audiences of all ages. Together with Rachel Maloney, his performances are fun, engaging, and unusual.

Rachel Maloney (Turner)

Rachel was born in Norton, Virginia. Her love of the fiddle was nurtured at an early age by the many festivals in the mountains of Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. Her father was a coal miner in a small town in the heart of the Appalachians where these states border one another. Rachel's greatest inspiration has been the powerful musical tradition in that pocket of the Appalachians where she grew up. Her travels to Europe broadened her love of folk music. There she discovered the roots of her own heritage. Rachel plays the fiddle, washboard, melodian, jawharp, bones, viola, psaltry, mandolin and cornet. Along with fellow multi-instrumentalist Chris Turner, Rachel is a captivating performer. Children of all ages will find her/their programs approachable and informative.

Steven Jobe

Steven Jobe has been active as a musician in Rhode Island since 1984. A multi-instrumentalist (viola, bassoon, hurdy-gurdy), he has performed with Chris Turner and Rachel Maloney and also with violinist Laura Gulley and accordionist/composer Alec Redfearn. Steve was music director for the Rhode Island School of Design theatre arts workshop "Cabraet" from 1991 to 2000. He composed an opera Jeanne d'Arc which was produced in Providence in 1993 and 1997. He is currently at work on a music/dance production based on the Hieronymus Bosch painting "Garden of Earthly Delights."
